About Our LHIN
The NSM LHIN is one of 14 local entities designed to plan, integrate and fund local health services, including hospitals, community care access centres, community health centres, long-term care homes, mental health and addiction programs and a variety of community support services agencies within specific geographic areas. The LHIN believes that North Simcoe Muskoka’s health needs and priorities are best understood by people familiar with the needs of our communities and the people who live here, not from offices hundreds of miles away.
The NSM LHIN has a population of 422,175 (Census 2006), representing 3.5% of Ontario’s population. It encompasses the District of Muskoka, most of the County of Simcoe and a portion of Grey County. NSM is home to four First Nations. Given its location in and around cottage country, NSM experiences significant seasonal variation in population and demands for related health services. NSM is also an increasingly popular retirement destination.
