Health Equity Impact Assessment

Health Equity is a key component of quality health care. The Health Equity Impact Assessment (HEIA) is a practical tool that health service providers can use to identify and address potential health impacts (positive and negative) of a plan, policy or program on specific population groups - particularly those who are most vulnerable and marginalized.

The HEIA tool includes a template and a workbook. The workbook provides detailed instructions and walks users through HEIA's four steps:

  • Scoping
  • Impact Assessment
  • Mitigation, and
  • Monitoring.

The results are recorded in the template.

Providers are encouraged to apply HEIA when developing their Health System Improvement Proposal.
